Daily Covid-19 count crosses 1.5 lakh, sees 13% growth India News – Times of India

New Delhi: Daily Covid-19 cases in India crossed 1.5 lakh on Saturday – almost 13% more than the previous day. This was the first time after May 30, 2021 that the country had registered more than 1.5 lakh cases in a day.
Meanwhile, India continued to record over 100 deaths for the second day with 120 deaths on Saturday. The total toll increased by 329 on Saturday. There were 130 deaths on Friday. The number of active cases crossed 5 lakh on Saturday, up from around 5.9 lakh at the end of the day. Active cases in the country had crossed 1 lakh on December 31.
The 12.6% increase in daily cases on Saturday was lower than the rates recorded in the past few days.
The growth rate was 21% on Friday, 29% on Thursday, 56.6% on Wednesday and 56.3% on Tuesday. The cases are likely to see a big jump again on Tuesday after the “weekend effect” of low testing and staff shortages.
Maharashtra 41,434 cases were reported on Saturday – up from 40,925 a day earlier.
Mumbai’s tally fell 3% from Friday’s total to 20,318; Delhi saw 20,181 cases on Saturday – up from Friday’s 17,335. Bengal 18,802 new cases were observed; Answer State 6,411 more Jharkhand 5,081.
