Daily cases double in one day, touch 7-month peak at 151. Gurgaon News – Times of India

GURUGRAM: The city on Wednesday recorded its biggest single-day spike in Covid-19 infections in seven months, including 151 fresh Covid-19 cases, more than double Tuesday’s 72. This is the highest count since May 28, when 171 people tested positive.
Significantly, out of 151 cases, 105 patients have received at least one dose of the Kovid vaccine, prompting health officials to take precautions.
“Our rapid response teams are examining COVID patients to check their condition. Most of them are in home isolation. Our hospitals and isolation centers are ready as we are expecting more cases in the coming days. Gurugram Chief Medical Officer Dr Virendra Yadav said that people should follow the COVID protocol and wear masks while stepping out.
On Wednesday, Gurugram’s caseload stood at 1,82,502, while the active cases crossed the 500-mark. Out of 502 patients, 492 are recovering at home and 10 are admitted in hospitals. After 475 active cases on May 25, there was a decrease in the active number but it has been increasing gradually since December 12.
A total of 27 people were cured in the day, taking the total number of cured people to 1,81,073. The health department said 5,628 tests were conducted and the overall positivity rate, which stood at 0.4% on Tuesday, is now 0.6%.
Dr Yadav told TOI that the health authorities have classified Covid patients into four categories – asymptomatic, mild, moderate and severe cases.
“Symptomatic cases do not require any medication and are advised to continue taking medicines for other comorbid conditions, if they have any. Most of the cases are asymptomatic and in home isolation,” he said.
Mild cases occur in people who have a direct upper respiratory tract infection. “Symptoms are mild, such as fever, cough, sore throat, nasal congestion and headache. There is no shortness of breath or hypoxia,” the CMO said.
In moderate cases, people can develop pneumonia with no symptoms of severe illness, as well as adults with hypoxia, fever, cough, SpO2 greater than 90% on room air, and respiratory rate greater than or equal to 24 per minute. may be equal, Dr. Yadav said.
Severe cases are those with severe pneumonia and one of the following – respiratory rate greater than 30 per minute, severe respiratory distress or SpO2 less than 90%, he said.
Meanwhile, the health department has issued a show-cause notice to a private lab for sending two samples of COVID patients for genome sequencing without the knowledge of the District Surveillance Officer.

A total of 14,987 people in the 18-44 category and 2,229 people in the age group above 45 were vaccinated on Wednesday. Five health workers and 11 frontline workers were also vaccinated. A total of 17,232 jobs were administered.
