Cyclone Mocha: Storm Intensifying Over Southeast Bay of Bengal; Rain Alert in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha

The IMD had earlier indicated the formation of Cyclone Mocha over southeast Bay of Bengal, which was seen as the first stage of development into a possible severe storm over the region next week.

Mohapatra said details about the path and intensity of the cyclone would be provided after the formation of a low pressure area (LPA). According to them, the weather system is likely to concentrate into a depression over southeast Bay of Bengal around May 9 and intensify into a cyclonic storm and move almost northwards towards central Bay of Bengal.

Rain in Andaman, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha

The IMD predicted “heavy to very heavy rain and gusty winds” over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from May 8 to May 12. It also issued a ‘Rain Watch’ alert for the districts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha between May 7 and 9. The Met office forecast moderate to heavy rain at isolated places along the east coast.

The IMD in its weather said, “Lightning very likely at isolated places over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and strong wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at isolated places over Rayalaseema.” are supposed to.” Bulletin.

Rain is likely over Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram, ASR, Anakapalle, Eluru, Ubhaya Godavari, NTR, Guntur, Krishna, Palnadu, Prakasam, Nellore, Tirupati, Nandyala, Chittoor, and parts of Cuddapah and Annamayya.

The IMD issued a cyclonic storm warning for 18 districts of Odisha, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack and Puri, with Yellow notices for nine districts.

Fishermen on alert for five days

The IMD has warned fishermen for the next five days over southeast Bay of Bengal with wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph from Sunday.

In its warning issued till May 10, the IMD said, “People who are in southeast Bay of Bengal are advised to return to safer places before May 7 and those in central Bay of Bengal before May 9.” It is recommended.”

It has also suggested that tourism and offshore activities as well as shipping near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands be regulated between May 8 and 12.
