Curfew in Shivamogga to continue till Saturday | Mysuru News – Times of India

SHIVAMOGGA: Home minister Araga Jnanendra, who on Thursday reviewed the situation in Shivamogga with senior police officers, said curfew clamped in the city after communal violence will be extended till Saturday morning.
The violence had started in Malnad city following the murder of Bajrang Dal worker Harsh on Sunday night.
Jnanendra said he has deputed senior IPS officer Raman Gupta, joint commissioner of police (crime), Bengaluru city police, to look into the situation. The minister said a semblance of peace has returned to the city after curfew restrictions and police presence. “But as a precaution, the curfew has been extended,” he said. Schools, colleges and commercial establishments will be shut on Friday.
The minister said the worker’s murder was pre-planned and executed. “The government will appoint a special public prosecutor and request the court to speed up the trial. This will send a message to anti-social elements,” he said.
Jnanendra also met Harsha’s family and said all the assailants would be arrested soon.
Sources said the probe team has made headway and a couple of arrests may happen this weekend. Eight people have been arrested in the case.
Earlier, a joint action committee (JAC) of Muslim leaders alleged that minister KS Eswarappawho represents Shivamogga assembly segment, instigated youths against police who failed to contain the violence after the murder.
JAC leader Mujahid Siddiqui said Harsh’s murder was unfortunate. “We demand a judicial inquiry. A few days before the incident, the city witnessed violence because of the hijab row. BJP leaders instigated students with their statements. After Harsha’s murder on Sunday night, Eshwarappa claimed that Muslim goondas are involved. This made the minority community the target of violence,” he said.
Former Union minister and BJP MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal, who met Harsha’s family on Thursday, claimed Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi visit families of Muslims but not Hindu families after tragedies. “There is an international conspiracy against Hindu activists. It will be last Hindu youth murder in the state. The BJP will ensure that such political killings are stopped,” he said.
Muthalik takes part in Harsha’s ash-immersion ritual
Sri Rama Sen chief Pramod Muthalik on Thursday arrived in Srirangapatna to take part in the ritual of immersing Harsha’s ashes at Paschimavahini. Muthalik told reporters that anti-social forces have so far murdered over 30 Hindutva activists. “If the government fails to ban SDPI, PFI, and other fanatic organisations, Hindu activists will not allow the BJP to continue in power,” he said.
