Curfew in Rajasthan district after the murder of the teenager (Representational image)

Curfew was imposed and internet services suspended for 24 hours following the brutal murder of a teenager in Rajasthan’s Baran district. The police gave this information on Sunday.

Azad, a resident of Shramik Colony in Talabpara area, was allegedly murdered by Hemant Rathore and his associates on Saturday evening over a one-and-a-half-year-old dispute.

ASP Vijay Swarnkar said, “The brutal murder is a result of personal enmity and rivalry between two groups without any communal angle.”

While the victim was shot twice and then attacked with an iron rod outside Baran Anaj Mandi gate, the “panic-stricken” passersby remained mute spectators, police said.

He said in a CCTV footage, the accused is seen beating Azad till his body becomes lifeless.

After committing the crime, the accused continued to walk on the road for about five minutes, he said.

A video of the incident was posted on the internet on Saturday night, following which the district administration imposed curfew under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and banned internet services for 24 hours till 3 am on Monday.

Station in-charge Mangilal Yadav said that on the complaint of the victim’s family, a case has been registered against Rathore and some unknown people under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.

Police said that after the post-mortem on Saturday late night, the victim’s body was handed over to her family, efforts are on to nab the accused.
