UGC chairman Professor M Jagadesh Kumar said the dates were changed in Jammu and Kashmir due to the needs of the candidates as the NTA is exploring the possibility of setting up a temporary center in the state.

In violence-hit Manipur, the Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate has been pushed to May 29 in view of the “law and order” situation in the violence-hit Manipur, the National Testing Agency (NTA) said in a notification issued late on Friday. In Jammu and Kashmir also the exam was postponed till May 26 as the first phase scheduled from May 21 to May 25 was canceled in the state.

According to NTA, a total of 3,697 candidates had applied for the exam in Manipur. But in view of displacement of students due to ethnic conflict in the state, candidates will be allotted exam centers wherever they are currently posted.

For Jammu and Kashmir, Professor M Jagadesh Kumar, Chairman, University Grants Commission, said, “It has been decided that the CUET (UG) 2023 examination scheduled from May 21 to May 25, 2023, will be canceled in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.” Has been done.” A total of 87,309 candidates have been registered from the UT, Kumar said, adding that this is a phenomenal increase in the number of candidates registered as compared to last year.

“To be sensitive to the needs of the candidates and for the convenience of the students of J&K, NTA is exploring the possibility of having a temporary center in Kashmir. In view of the above, it has been decided that CUET (UG) will now be conducted in the UT from May 26,” he said.

For Manipur, a notification by the central agency said, “NTA has carefully reviewed the law and order situation in consultation with the state administration and will make telephone calls to these candidates to inquire about their preferred city for the said examination.” contacted.”

It further said that some candidates, who were not in Manipur or wanted to take the exam in any other state or city, are being allotted in other cities – Delhi, Guwahati etc. The option to change the center is still available for the candidates of Manipur.

Also, the candidates who have received the admit card for Phase I examination from May 21 to May 24 or who were issued ‘City Intimation Slip’ for Phase I examination from May 25 to May 28, will be sent the same through email or phone. In Jammu and Kashmir, an official said some candidates have been moved out of the state due to lack of exam centres. In the first phase of the exam, which will now be held from May 26, a total of 18,012 candidates from J&K will appear in 12 exam centers – three in Jammu, five in Srinagar, two in Baramulla and two in Baramulla. One each in Samba and Pulwama. In the second phase, a total of 44,425 J&K candidates will appear in 15 centers set up in the state itself.

CUET-UG is the second largest entrance exam in the country, the second edition of which is going to be held from May 21 to June 6.
