Team News: Chennai Super Kings

Stokes, who was suffering from a toe injury in relief of CSK, took part in the nets on Wednesday after regaining fitness and is available for selection.

The return of the England Test skipper after a close win over Royal Challengers Bangalore will be a big boost for CSK as they return to their fort. Their opponents Hyderabad, however, suffered a defeat at the hands of Mumbai Indians.

The Super Kings batsmen have been able to post decent scores, thanks to the starts provided by Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad at the top, while Shivam Dube has played some impressive innings.

Ajinkya Rahane has been a revelation, batting with a lot of freedom and taking on opposition bowlers but in a conservative manner and although the rest of the batsmen haven’t done much, the crowds, especially in Chennai, are eager to see an older Dhoni. Hope to open up to some big hits.

While CSK’s batting unit has been searching for runs, the bowlers have been inconsistent and the fielding has been below par.

Sri Lankan pacer Mathisha Pathirana did a commendable job in the match against RCB but the same cannot be said about the others, although Tushar Deshpande has gotten better with each game.

CSK will be wary of the fact that they were trounced in the last home game by Rajasthan Royals, losing by three runs as the middle order could not provide much pace to Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja at the end.

The Super Kings will look to strangle the SRH batsmen with spin and the trio of Thekshana, Jadeja and Moeen Ali could prove to be a handful.

CSK have won four of their last five games against Hyderabad and the home side will be hoping to extend the run.

Team News: Sunrisers Hyderabad

SRH, on the other hand, will be hoping for their batting unit to click and the onus will be on skipper Aiden Markram to rise to the occasion. The other batsmen in the line-up need to step up if Hyderabad hope to upset CSK’s applecart at Chepauk.

The loss of wickets in the powerplay has held Sunrisers back and head coach Brian Lara said after the loss to MI that the middle-order needed someone to bat deep and finish games.

The impressive Harry Brook will be one to watch in the Hyderabad line-up and if he carries on, he could prove to be a handful for the CSK bowlers.

Local lad Washington Sundar, who plays for SRH, will be hoping to get a game on his home ground and do well. He has been up and down while the inconsistency of the bowling unit has hurt their chances.
