Veteran RJD leader Jagdanand Singh has reportedly offered to resign from the party.

Crisis in RJD: All is not well within the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) as veteran leader Jagdanand Singh has reportedly offered to quit the party. According to sources, Singh’s alleged move comes after his relations with party president Lalu Prasad’s elder son Tej Pratap soured.

There were reports of differences between party leaders after the RJD’s 25th foundation day celebrations. During the program, Tej Pratap appealed to all the leaders of the state, including the senior leaders of the state, to raise their hands to show solidarity.

However, Jagdanand Singh did not show much interest in Tej Pratap’s call. “Jagdanand uncle may be angry with me,” Tej Pratap replied then.

News agency IANS quoted a senior RJD leader as saying, “Party insiders believe that Tej Pratap was responsible for humiliating Jagdanand Singh, one of the most senior members of the party, on a public platform. I may have to resign from the party.” as saying.

Jagdanand Singh declined to comment

Journalists at the RJD headquarters in Patna sought his reply on reports of Singh’s offer to resign. Jagdanand Singh himself neither denied nor accepted that he had resigned from the RJD.

Tejashwi in damage control

Sensing the trouble, Lalu’s younger son Tejashwi Yadav took the initiative to bridge the differences. According to sources, the former Deputy CM of Bihar spoke to father Lalu Prasad and requested him to intervene in the matter. After which Lalu took charge to solve the problem, the sources said. Jagdanand Singh has not publicly acknowledged that he has offered his resignation to Lalu Prasad.

An official spokesperson of the RJD denied that Jagdanand Singh had resigned as the party’s state president.

RJD state spokesperson Chittaranjan Gagan said, “Jagdanand Singh’s resignation is not true. It is just a rumor and nothing else.”
