Crimes against children: Over 350 cases registered everyday in 2020, NCRB data revealed

A total of one lakh 28 thousand 531 cases of crime against children were registered in the country last year. According to this, more than 350 cases of crime against children occurred every day in the country during the corona virus epidemic. This information was shared by an NGO ‘Cry’ (Child Rights and AAP) on Friday after analyzing the data of NCRB (National Crime Records Bureau).

However, CRY in its analysis has said that there has been a decline in the cases of crime against children in 2020 as compared to the year 2019. It said that the NCRB data shows that in the year 2019, one lakh 48 thousand 185 such cases were registered. This means that in 2019 there were more than 400 criminal incidents against children every day. This is 13.3 percent more than the year 2020.

50% of child marriages and online abuse incidents increased by 400%

  • The child rights organization said that even though the overall number of crimes against children has registered a decline, the incidents of child marriage have increased by 50 per cent and incidents of online abuse have increased by 400 per cent in a year.
  • Apart from this, in the decade-by-decade comparison, the incidence of crime against children in the country has increased by 381 percent in the last decade (2010-2020). At the same time, the number of total crimes in the country has increased by 2.2 percent in the same period.
