Cricketers should be proud to represent their district: MS Dhoni

the former India Skipper and Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Wednesday said cricketers should be proud to represent their district as it is a high-level ladder.

“This is the first time that I am part of a festival where we are celebrating the success of a district union. I want to thank my District Cricket Association back home (Ranchi). Cricketers should be proud to represent their district. I am proud that I got a chance to represent my country, but it would not have happened if I had not played for my district or school,” Dhoni said.

He was speaking at a function organized on the occasion of Silver Jubilee of Tiruvallur district. Cricket Association (TDCA) in which he attended as the chief guest along with former ICC President and former BCCI President N Srinivasan.

Dhoni also lauded the Tiruvallar District Cricket Association for completing 25 years.

“Congratulations to Thiruvallur District Cricket Association for completing 25 years. It’s been over 25 years, but we’re celebrating it today. I have known (RN) Baba (TDCA secretary) for a very long time. He said that many congratulations not only to him but also to other people of the association.

Speaking on the occasion, Srinivasan said, “It is not easy for any association to last long. The love for the game compels him (Baba) to work for cricket. He played the field, cricketer. And have developed excellent players.”

“And, the association has taught everyone the value of sportsmanship. I wish him (TDCA) more respect and greatness.

In association with TDCA, Tamil Nadu Play The Journalists Association (TNSJA) along with the handing over of the check by Dhoni, awarded a scholarship of Rs 3 lakh to ten sportspersons from different disciplines in the state of Tamil Nadu.

India Cements whole-time director Roopa Gurunath, CSK CEO KS Viswanathan and office-bearers of Tamil Nadu Cricket Association also attended the ceremony.

Several men and women cricketers, including India internationals Ravichandran Ashwin, Dinesh Karthik and MD Thirushkamini, congratulated TDCA through video messages.
