Cricket fans turned out in large numbers as Nepal recently hosted Namibia

Cricket in Nepal has a very passionate following. The fans of the national cricket team are known to support their team in large numbers and one such scene came to the fore recently when they thronged the Tribhuvan University International. Cricket Kirtipur ground to witness ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 match between Nepal and Namibia.

And the Nepalese cricket team did not disappoint the home crowd who kept cheering the hosts on throughout the game. Nepal registered a thrilling two-run win over Namibia. And a picture of the emotional Nepal cricket fans who are by his side has now gone viral.

Social media users can see the craze for cricket in Nepal.

One Twitter user commented, “Only allied country where cricket is the most popular sport. It makes sense. I really want Scotland, the Netherlands and Nepal to become the next full members.”

Another person said that, “Nepal cricket is well and truly back.”

“Nepal cricket team deserves more praise from the International Cricket Council,” read a tweet.

One person jokingly commented, “And according to some people, adding cricket is not good enough.”

Ace Nepalese spinner Sandeep Lamichhane, who is currently out on bail, made his international comeback during the match against Namibia.

Lamichhane was accused of raping a 17-year-old girl in August last year. He was later suspended as captain of the national cricket team and the 22-year-old was eventually arrested.

Lamichhane was released on bail last month and took three wickets in the match.

Batting first, Namibia posted a challenging total of 285. Their all-rounder Michael van Lingen played a brilliant knock of 133 to register his highest score in ODIs.

Nepal pacer Karan KC was the star with the ball, taking five wickets.

Nepal’s chase of the target did not start well and wicketkeeper Asif Sheikh was dismissed without scoring in the second over. Opener Kushal Bhurtel hit his maiden ODI century to guide Nepal to a thrilling win.

The Asian side is currently placed sixth on the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 points table.
