Begusarai: A CPI worker was lynched to death on Saturday for demanding money lent to accused Qari Sah.
Police sources said that the deceased Ram Sevak Poddar was a former district secretary of AISF and used to run a grocery shop in Parihara market in Parihara police outpost area. Begusarai District.
When he asked Qari to return the money he had borrowed, the accused started beating Ram Sevak at the shop itself.
“The people present there somehow pacified Qari, who went home. However, late in the evening, when Ram Sevak was going to his house by demolishing the shutter of his shop, Qari stopped him and beat him up mercilessly. This led to his death on the spot,” alleged his family members at Sadar Hospital, where the body was sent for postmortem on Sunday.
Angered by the news of Ram Sevak’s death, the villagers blocked the traffic on Bakhri-Khagaria road on Saturday night. The blockade was lifted only after Bakhri SDPO Chandan Kumar assured that the accused would be arrested soon. Bakhri MLA Suryakant Paswan, who belongs to CPI, also reached the spot.
His family members said, “Kari is a drug addict and even after attacking Ram Sevak, he was in an inebriated state.”
The SDPO said that the accused and his family members are absconding. Ram Sevak was also a former member of the local Panchayat Samiti.
