Hyderabad: The latest genetic sequencing data from the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) and GSAID indicate that the imminent threat of new forms of coronavirus with the potential to cause a renewed rise in Covid infections remains a cause for concern. There are 568 covid sequences being tested in various genetic laboratories in India with both delta and omicron variants.

Popularly known as DeltaCron, Telangana has reported 25 such cases so far, while Karnataka continues to be the hotspot with 221, followed by Tamil Nadu with 90, Maharashtra 66, Gujarat 33, West Bengal 32 and New Delhi 20. There are cases.

The presence of genetic signatures of both delta and omicron variants in the 568 covid sequences is indicative of the presence of recombinant virus, meaning that it contains genetic elements of both delta and omicron or contains genes of both variants.

Health officials in Hyderabad claim that mounting evidence of delta and omicron recombination suggests that the coronavirus continues to evolve, a good enough reason for people to be vigilant and to realize that the pandemic may not be over.

A few days ago, France’s Pasteur Institution provided evidence of Delta and Omicron recombinant viruses and its data and analysis provided a definitive confirmation of authentic recombinant viruses derived from the Delta and Omicron lineages, which the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed. The delegates accepted and warned the countries.

WHO Chief Scientist Dr Soumya Swaminathan said on Twitter, “We know that with many circulating forms of SARSCoV2, recombinant events can occur in humans or animals. Experiments need to wait to determine the properties of this virus. The importance of sequencing, analyzing and sharing data rapidly as we tackle this pandemic”.

INSACOG gene sequencing investigations indicate that at some point, both Delta and Omicron variants were circulating in states such as Telangana at the same time. Omicron was first reported in December, 2021 and became active in January, 2022 and the delta variant was still active at that time and had not been completely replaced by Omicron, providing substantial potential for the development of recombinant viruses. There was scope.
