COVID restrictions in West Bengal extended till July 15; Learn about new exemptions amid restrictions

Kolkata: The West Bengal government on Monday extended the COVID-19 restrictions till July 15 with some relaxations across the state.

As per the decision of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, private and corporate offices can remain open from 10 am to 4 pm with 50 per cent working capacity.

Salons and beauty parlors have been allowed to open from 11 am to 6 pm with 50 per cent seating capacity, provided the staff members have been vaccinated.

Gyms across the state have been allowed to open with 50 per cent capacity.

Banks will be open between 10 am to 2 pm

The decision comes after West Bengal recorded over 1,800 new coronavirus cases and 29 deaths in the last 24 hours.

The state currently has 21,884 active coronavirus cases.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee last week wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking the intervention of the World Health Organization (WHO) for the earliest approval for Covaxin.

“I have written to Hon’ble Prime Minister today seeking his intervention from @WHO for early approval for COVAXIN. A large number of students travel abroad for higher studies and amidst the already dire situation, we must take all possible steps to make their lives easier,” he tweeted and shared the letter to Prime Minister Modi.
