Covid: Positivity rate, active cases fall in Dakshina Kannada Mangaluru News – Times of India

There is a gradual decline in the test positivity rate (TPR) Dakshina Kannada, one of the few districts where Covid-19 cases are still a matter of concern. The rate fell by more than 5 per cent in August to 1.7 per cent in the period from September 5 to 11.
Sulia, Pillow and Puttur taluks have TPR of 1 percent or less. Only Mangaluru taluk reported a TPR of more than 2 per cent.
The district conducted 76,464 COVID tests last week, in which 1,318 positive cases were detected. Of the new infections, 760 were recorded in Mangaluru taluk, 173 in Belthangadi, 146 in Bantwal, 124 in Puttur and 65 in each. suliya.
Dakshina Kannada’s active caseload, which was above 13,000 in mid-May, was below 2,000 till Sunday. The district recorded an average of about 350 cases per day in the first week of August, which fell to 188 in the previous week.
Doctor Ashok Hu, the district nodal officer for COVID-19 told TOI that the cases were declining mainly due to restrictions imposed on educational institutions and borders. “We have given strict instructions to all the institutions that it will be the responsibility of the management to ensure that the guidelines are followed. We can control the spread of the virus to around 70 per cent through restrictions for students from Kerala, where cases continue to rise,” he said.
District Health Officer Dr. Kishore Kumar Mohd He said that the number of outstation students coming to the campuses has come down and as a result, daily Covid-19 cases have also come down. “Mangaluru taluk is also showing a declining trend in terms of fresh cases. Interstate border surveillance has also helped Dakshina Kannada to check the spread of the virus. Fewer students are contracting the infection on campuses after the restrictions on the borders,” he said.
On the cases in Belthangady, he said that interstate travelers were among the factors that led to a marginal increase in the positivity rate.
