Health ministry data on Thursday showed that India recorded a total of 1,72,433 new cases of the novel coronavirus with 1,008 deaths in the last 24 hours. With this, the total active cases of COVID-19 in the country has reached 15,33,921. The death toll from coronavirus in India now stands at 4,98,983, while the positivity rate stands at 10.99 per cent.
The data shows that a total of 167.87 crore vaccinations have been done in the country so far.
India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed 20 lakh on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It had crossed 60 lakh on 28 September, 70 lakh on 11 October. 80 lakh on 29 October, 90 lakh on 20 November and crossed the one crore mark on 19 December.
India crossed the grim milestone of 20 million on 4 May and 30 million on 23 June.
1,008 new people include 165 from Kerala and 79 from Maharashtra.
A total of 4,98,983 deaths have been reported in the country so far, including 1,42,784 from Maharashtra, 56,100 from Kerala, 39,137 from Karnataka, 37,636 from Tamil Nadu, 25,919 from Delhi, 23,254 from Uttar Pradesh and 20,687 from West Bengal.
