COVID: Center asks states to resume surveillance of influenza-like cases amid increase of COVID in South-East Asia. India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Citing a resurgence of coronavirus cases in parts of South-East Asia and Europe, the Center has asked states to resume surveillance of influenza-like illness and severe acute respiratory infections so that no early warning signs appear. don’t miss and covid is controlled.
Testing for Influenza Like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) cases have been the pillars of COVID management for the government.
However, the tests were halted recently as India continues to report a steady decline in the number of Covid-19 cases.
As part of intensive surveillance, patients who are hospitalized with ILI and SARI will be again tested for COVID-19 and positive samples will be sent for genome sequencing.
In a letter, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan The Ministry has asked all the States and Union Territories to ensure that sufficient number of samples are submitted to the INSCOG network for timely detection of new COVID variants.
He also stressed on maintaining testing as per protocol, following all precautions and not letting the guard down while resuming economic and social activities.
“Effective surveillance by monitoring of emerging clusters of new cases, if any, testing as per norms and monitoring of ILI and SARI cases will be done on an ongoing basis to ensure that no early warning signs are missed and infection to control the spread of Grace Said in the letter.
He further said that the state machinery should create necessary awareness and ensure adherence to COVID-appropriate behavior and practice effective hand and respiratory hygiene.
With the spike in COVID-19 cases in some countries in South East Asia and Europe, a high level meeting chaired by the Health Minister was held Mansukh Mandaviya Bhushan said in the letter that as on March 16, states were advised to focus on aggressive genome sequencing, intensive surveillance and overall surveillance on the COVID situation.
He also stressed on the continued focus on a five-fold strategy of testing, tracking, treating and immunizing and adhering to COVID-appropriate behaviour.
“All states and union territories should follow all precautions and not let the guard down while resuming economic and social activities,” Bhushan said.
“It is also important that the states ensure that all eligible people are motivated to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as per the recent expansion of the vaccination campaign,” he added.
