At least 56% of Delhi-NCR residents who had a Covid or viral infection with similar symptoms in the past 45 days experienced a persistent cough, found a survey by LocalCircles.

On 5 May, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that COVID-19 is no longer a public health emergency, although it is still a global health threat. In mid-April, it added XBB.1.16, known as Arcturus, as a variant of interest. While the number of active Covid cases registered in India has dropped to around 30,000, one issue people are reporting is that some people are still experiencing symptoms several weeks after their Covid or viral infection.

The reporting has been highest from residents of Delhi and NCR.

Delhi-NCR had a high prevalence of XBB.1.16 in April and almost one in two households surveyed in the Local Circles survey in the third week of April indicated that one or more persons had symptoms of Covid.

With many people in the city reporting symptoms, LocalCircles conducted a fresh survey in the first week of May to find out what symptoms people are still experiencing in Delhi and the four NCR cities of Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad. have been

Survey

“What symptoms are still present in one or more members of your household after a COVID/viral infection in the last 45 days?” the respondents were asked. Some of the 10,822 respondents pointed to more than one health issue.

Persistent cough was the biggest complaint for 56% of respondents; 22% complained of shortness of breath; 22% lingering fatigue; 11% of persistent cold; 11% of joint pain; 11% had long-lasting cystitis; and 11% slow stuttering. The results of the survey indicate the effect on the lungs or respiratory system of the residents of Delhi-NCR.

The most important thing here for affected residents of Delhi is to monitor yourself and if these symptoms persist for more than 30-45 days, consult your doctor and get additional tests/investigations done.
