Coimbatore, which reported the highest number of new cases on Wednesday, remained the only district to report more than 200 cases. The district reported 213 cases as compared to 217 cases on Tuesday. Coimbatore was followed by Chennai (179), Erode (117) and Chengalpet (115).
Highest growth though. was informed by Thanjavuri, where the cases increased from 53 on Tuesday to 85 cases on Wednesday. The number of cases in Krishnagiri rose to 36 from 14 on Tuesday. The sharpest fall was seen in Chennai and Tiruvallur. In Tiruvallur, the cases came down from 69 on Tuesday to 51 on Wednesday.
Yet, at least 17 districts reported less than 20 cases. It consists of 6 districts dindigul, Perambalur, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram and Theni.
The death toll in the state rose to 35,073 with 18 deaths. At the end of the day, after 1,594 people were discharged, the state had 16,180 cases in the list of active cases.
On Wednesday, the state vaccinated 3.4 lakh people taking the cumulative dose count to 3.4 crore in government centres. From May 1, the coverage of vaccination at private centers reached 22.35 lakh.
