New Delhi: Zydus Cadila COVID-19 vaccine for children above 12 years is expected to be available by August as its trials are likely to be completed by the end of July, Dr NK Arora, Chairman, National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI) he said.
The NTAGI chief said, “By the end of July the trial will be almost complete and in August we will be able to vaccinate 12-18 year olds.” commenting on ICMR study says third wave of COVID-19 likely to be late He said that in the coming months, the government has set a target of giving 1 crore doses every day to achieve the target of immunizing everyone in the country within a time frame of six to eight months.
The NTAGI chief also said that vaccination rumors are vague and vaccines are 95-96 per cent safe in India. “ICMR has come up with a study which states that the third wave is likely to be late . We have 6-8 months to vaccinate everyone in the country. In the coming days, we aim to give 1 crore doses every day. It is important that people actively come forward and take vaccines, this is absolutely necessary.
Many types of rumours, misinformation are spreading in the country. Similarly there is some vague fear in the minds of people. They think there may be some side effects or that the vaccine may be unsafe Dr. Arora said. He added, “Scientifically, we are seeing adverse events during vaccination, 95-96 per cent people have only mild fever or localized pain, 4-5 per cent people have been hospitalized due to allergies. Or some get worried and have to be hospitalized but otherwise these vaccines are absolutely safe.
Speaking on Zydus Cadila’s COVID-19 Vaccine, Dr Randeep Guleria, Director, AIIMS Delhi told ANI: “Zydus Cadila is DNA Vaccine. This is a new platform that is being used. It is something we are proud of. There should be a platform for which research has not been done in our country in the past and now to make this new type of vaccine, the data is still being collected and one is hoping that they will go to DCGI for regulatory approval. So, one is hopeful and it will depend on the company how soon the company is able to collate the data and give it to the regulatory authority.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lauded the country’s commendable pace on the vaccination front and urged the nation to do away with vaccine hesitation. While addressing the “Mann Ki Baat” radio programme, PM Modi said That India has achieved a historic achievement by immunizing more than 86 lakh people in a day.
“The battle we countrymen are fighting against Corona continues, but in this fight, together, we have achieved many extraordinary milestones! Just a few days back, our country achieved an unprecedented feat. On June 21, when the new phase vaccine campaign started, over 86 lakh people set a record of receiving free vaccine doses in a day,” he said.
He spoke to two villagers of Dularia village in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh, who through social media informed about the hesitation about the vaccine in their village. PM Modi urged villagers not to believe in rumours and said, “I have taken both the doses. My mother is almost a hundred years old, she has taken both the vaccines too. Please do not believe any negative rumor related to vaccines “
