Vaccination against COVID-19 in the age group of 12-14 years began on Wednesday as the country celebrated National Immunization Day with the intramuscular vaccine Corbevax of the biological E, two doses of which are to be administered 28 days apart.

As of March 1, 2021, there were 47 million children in the age group of 12 and 13 in the country.

Over 2.15 crore (2,15,44,283) precautionary doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been given to healthcare workers, frontline workers and people above 60 years of age.

The daily vaccination numbers are expected to increase with the compilation of the final report for the day by late night.

According to ministry data, the cumulative COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country have crossed 180.69 crore ((1,80,69,92,584) so ​​far.

The Center has asked states to conduct dedicated COVID vaccination sessions through designated centers and train vaccines to avoid mixing of vaccines during immunization of children in the 12-14 age group.

All people aged 60 years and above have been made eligible for a precautionary dose of the COVID vaccine. Dosage prioritization and sequencing will be based on completion from nine months to 39 weeks from the date of administration of the second dose.

The countrywide vaccination campaign was launched on January 16, 2021, in which healthcare workers were vaccinated in the first phase.
The vaccination of frontline workers started from February 2 last year.

The next phase of COVID-19 vaccination began on March 1 last year for people above 60 years of age and 45 years and above with specified co-morbid conditions.

India started vaccination for all people above 45 years of age from 1st April last year.

Following this, the government decided to expand its vaccination campaign by allowing everyone over the age of 18 to be vaccinated against the viral disease from May 1 last year.

The next phase of COVID vaccination began on January 3 this year for adolescents in the age group of 15-18 years.

India began giving a precautionary dose of vaccines to healthcare and frontline workers and people aged 60 and above from January 10 this year.
