Covid-19 second wave is over in Telangana, says health official

A health department official said that the second wave of COVID-19 has ended in Telangana with the virus situation in the state currently completely under control. “It can be said that the second wave is completely over in Telangana. If we take various parameters like number of new cases, daily positivity rate and hospitalization rate, coronavirus, as of now, the whole of Telangana, in all districts and all areas is completely under control,” said state public health director G Srinivasa Rao.

He said that the administration, however, is fully alert to deal with the situation and urged people not to downplay their defence. Telangana on Wednesday reported 424 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total number of positive cases in the state to 6,53,626.

The recovery and case fatality rates were 98.35 per cent and 0.58 per cent, respectively, as compared to the national average of 97.50 per cent and 1.3 per cent. He told reporters on Wednesday that the COVID-19 situation is under control, but seasonal diseases like dengue and malaria are emerging in some districts of the state.

Noting that the State Government has initiated various measures to tackle the increase in the cases of Malaria and Dengue, he urged the people to take precautionary measures to avoid getting infected. Rao said that though the state is in a position to eliminate malaria, he added that cases of malaria have been reported this year in Bhadradri-Kothagudem and Mulugu districts. He said dengue cases are mainly seen in urban areas, of which 50 per cent are reported in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

He said that the State Government has taken anti-larva campaigns and other measures to check the spread of seasonal diseases. Door to door fever survey has been done in GHMC. Preparations have also been intensified in hospitals. The health department official cautioned people against mistaking or ignoring the symptoms of seasonal diseases along with COVID-19 symptoms and suggested seeking medical care without delay.
