The Union Health Ministry said that the cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has crossed the 82 crore mark. As per the provisional report at 7 pm, more than 68 lakh (68,26,132) doses of vaccine were administered on Tuesday.

Overall, 33,43,93,211 people in the 18-44 category across all states and union territories have received their first dose and 6,46,03,335 have received their second dose since the start of the third phase of the vaccination campaign. is of.

The daily vaccination numbers are expected to increase with the compilation of the final report for the day by late night.

The immunization practice is regularly reviewed and monitored at the highest level as a tool to protect the most vulnerable population groups in the country from COVID-19, the ministry said.

The nationwide immunization drive was launched on 16 January with the first phase immunization of health workers (HCWs). The vaccination of frontline workers (FLWs) began on February 2.

The next phase of COVID-19 vaccination began from March 1 for people above 60 years of age and 45 years and above with specified co-morbid conditions.

The country started vaccination for all people over the age of 45 from 1 April.

The government then decided to expand its vaccination campaign by allowing everyone over the age of 18 to be vaccinated from May 1.
