The Union Health Ministry said that the cumulative COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has crossed the 107 crore mark. According to the provisional report at 7 pm, more than 37 lakh (37,38,574) doses were administered on Tuesday.

The daily vaccination numbers are expected to increase with the compilation of the final report for the day by late night, the ministry said.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Monday said that 78 per cent of India’s population has been given the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 38 per cent have received both the shots.

The ministry underlined that the vaccination exercise is being regularly reviewed and monitored as a tool to protect the most vulnerable population groups in the country from COVID-19.

The nationwide vaccination campaign was launched on January 16, with health workers being vaccinated in the first phase. The vaccination of frontline workers started from February 2.

The next phase of COVID-19 vaccination began from March 1 for people above 60 years of age and 45 years and above with specified co-morbid conditions.

The country started vaccination for all people over the age of 45 from 1 April. The government then decided to expand its vaccination campaign by allowing everyone over the age of 18 to be vaccinated from May 1.
