Vadodara: The Covid-19 numbers being reported in the city and district are easily turning into a guessing game. On its way out, the third wave has shown a steady decline, but at a slower pace for about two weeks now.
Figures released by health officials often reveal spikes and at times it takes days for them to drop below the previous minimum figure. There is no consistent decline and such spikes are no exception.
It is also seen from the data that the Covid-19 cases reported in a day have seen an increase as compared to the previous day, even though the testing has come down. Quite the opposite scenario also happens as there are days when the tests increase significantly but the number of cases is very less as compared to the previous day.
Health officials themselves are unable to explain the situation. “The important thing is that the cases are decreasing in the long term. Whatever data was received is being disclosed daily,” said an official.
Compared to smaller cities such as Rajkot and the much larger Surat, Vadodara city areas continued to report a larger number of cases. Surat and Rajkot have been reporting cases in single digits for the past few days. Sources say that this could be because other cities reached early as compared to Vadodara.
An official said that the cases coming out for about a week will be analyzed. “We will look into aspects like travel history, close contact with a Covid-19 case and others,” he said. He said as long as the numbers are not increasing continuously, there is no reason to worry.
