COVID-19: Delhi sees over 1600 new cases, positivity rate at 26.75%; Maha reports 1,113 fresh infections

COVID-19 Surge in India: Delhi recorded 1,603 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, a marginal decline from the earlier tally of 1,767 cases on Wednesday. As per the data shared by the health department of the city government, the positivity rate currently stands at 26.75 per cent. With the new cases, Delhi’s active tally has gone up to 1,526.

The national capital also reported three deaths in the last 24 hours. With the new deaths, the death toll from the pandemic in the national capital rose to 26,581. A total of 1,526 have also recovered and there is no news of death in the capital. Data shows that out of 7,976 Covid beds, 390 are occupied.

Maharashtra COVID-19 cases

Maharashtra recorded 1,113 new Covid-19 cases and three deaths in the last 24 hours, the state health department’s bulletin said on Thursday. With the fresh cases, the state currently has 6,129 active cases. The state’s overall COVID-19 tally rose to 81,59,506.

The bulletin states that 1,083 patients have been cured of corona virus infection in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 80,04,835. The state’s fatality rate stood at 1.82 per cent, while the recovery rate stood at 98.11 per cent. Out of 8,68,50,901 laboratory samples, 81,59,506 tested positive (09.39 per cent) for COVID-19 till date.

XBB.1.16 Omicron Head Tension Type

The bulletin states that currently the XBB.1.16 version of Omicron is the dominant strain in the state. The number of patients detected with this variant stood at 681, while five deaths linked to the strain have been reported in the state.

The health bulletin said that since January 1 this year, the state has recorded 75 COVID-19 deaths and 73.33 per cent of these deaths occurred in patients above 60 years of age. The department said it noted that 71 per cent of the deceased had comorbidities, while 9 per cent had no comorbidities and data was not available for 34 per cent of the deceased.

COVID cases in India

Meanwhile, India recorded 12,591 new Covid cases in a day, the highest in nearly eight months, while the active case burden rose to 65,286, Union Health Ministry data said today (April 20). The death toll has risen to 5,31,230 with 40 deaths, including 11 by Kerala.

The total number of Covid cases was recorded at 4.48 crore. The daily positivity rate was 5.46 per cent and the weekly positivity rate was 5.32 per cent. Active cases now comprise 0.15 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate stood at 98.67 per cent, according to the health ministry’s website. The number of people who have recovered from the disease has increased to 4,42,61, 476, while the death rate has been recorded at 1.18 percent.
