The state had started the reconciliation exercise on May 17. Barring the last two days of June and the first two days of July, the state has added chronic, unrecorded deaths almost every day in the last two months. While 6,207 ‘chronic’ deaths were added to the toll in May, it rose to 19,059 in June. In all, the state has added around 27,500 deaths through reconciliation since May, apart from the number of deaths reported in a 48-hour window. Pune contributed the most to reconciliation deaths. Of the 194 added on Sunday, 154 were from Pune district and 18 from Sangli.

Speaking in his hometown Jalna, Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that he has proposed to CM Uddhav Thackeray that certain restrictions should be imposed to enter the state border as the fear of a third wave looms large. “Entry into the state should be restricted without a Covid negative report. Admission should also be made conditional to take both the vaccine jabs,” Tope said.
