Covaxin: List of Countries Approving Entry of Indians with Bharat Biotech’s Vaccine

Covaxin, India’s first indigenous vaccine against Covid-19 infection, was said to play a key role in the country’s massive immunization drive. The vaccine approval process by WHO consists of four stages: acceptance of the manufacturer’s expression of interest (EOI), a pre-submission meeting between WHO and the manufacturer, acceptance of the dossier for review by WHO, decision evaluation on the status, and Final decision on approval.

Due to its pending approval from WHO, the European Union and the US are unwilling to allow Indians who have been vaccinated by Covaxin to enter their countries. However, here is a list of countries that have allowed Indians to enter with Covaxin:

1. Oman: The Indian Embassy on Wednesday informed that Oman has included Covaxin in the country’s list of approved COVID-19 vaccines, which means that Indians traveling to Oman will not have to undergo quarantine on arrival. “All travelers to India who have received two doses of Covaxin at least 14 days prior to the estimated arrival date will now be able to travel to Oman without the need for quarantine,” the Muscat-based embassy shared in a press release.

However, the remaining coronavirus-induced guidelines, such as pre-arrival RT-PCR testing, will remain in force. “This notification will greatly facilitate travel to Oman for Indian nationals who have taken Covaxin. Passengers who have taken AstraZeneca/Covishield are already allowed to travel without quarantine, the statement said.

2. Iran: Iran is allowing Indians to enter their country with Covaxin. Anyone traveling to Iran must have their vaccination certificate and their negative RT-PCR test report of less than 96 hours. If the test report is not available, the person will have to undergo quarantine for 14 days. Some people may also be re-tested on arrival and will have to isolate until they receive their test results.

3. Philippines: The Philippines’ drug regulator has approved Covaxin for emergency use in the country.

4. Mauritius: The Mauritian authorities have recognized Covaxin in their country. Fully vaccinated travelers are required to have a valid vaccination certificate indicating that at least 14 days have elapsed since they have received the second dose, except at Johnson & Johnson, where the single dose can be reached before arriving in Mauritius. At least 28 days must have elapsed since receiving it. Passengers must have a negative Covid-19 PCR test result received 3 – 7 days prior to departure from the last point of embarkation.

5. Mexico: Indians infected with Covaxin are allowed to travel to Mexico as the country’s health regulator Cofepris has authorized emergency use of India’s Covid-19 vaccine Covaxin. There are currently no mandatory quarantine requirements in Mexico. However, passengers showing symptoms of Covid-19 will be subjected to quarantine.

6. Nepal: Indian citizens who have been vaccinated against Covaxin can enter the country. All travelers must show a vaccine certificate and the last dose of vaccine must be taken at least 14 days before entering the country.

7. Zimbabwe: The African country has approved Covaxin, a vaccine manufactured in India.
