Courts Sentences 11,196 Years Imprisonment To Thodex Founder; Details Inside

Turkish crypto exchange Thodex founder Faruk Fatih Ozer, his sister Serap Ozer and his brother Güven Ozer were sentenced to 11,196 years, 10 months, and 15 days imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of about 5 million dollars against all of them.

Thodex was Turkey’s largest crypto exchange before it suddenly went offline in April 2021 and Ozer disappeared. He defrauded more than 400,000 people.

Ozer fled to Albania but was arrested in August 2022 following an Interpol red notice against him.

In April 2023, Ozer was extradited to Turkey and he was arrested by police. Ozer’s brother, sister, and four other senior employees were also sentenced to jail. According to information, at least 83 people were detained during the investigation. The 21 convicts faced up to 40,564 years in jail.

The Anatolian court announced the verdict on Thursday, acquitting 16 of the 21 defendants. Four of the seven jailed were released due to lack of evidence.
