Courier Firm Manager Concocts Loot Story To Repay Gambling Debt | Rajkot News – Times of India

Rajkot: Manager of a courier firm cooked up a Rs 71.50 lakh robbery story but the attempt turned out be a rather clumsy one after police nailed his lies.
Feigning panic and pain, Yashpalsinh Chauhan, manager of PM Angadia firm located in Wadhwan Marketing Yard of Surendranagar district, had called up the proprietor Pruthvirajsinh Zala on Thursday afternoon, saying that three people had robbed the cash from office.
Chauhan also said he was attacked with knife on the hand. Zala rushed to the office from his house and informed the police.
Based on Chauhan’s description of the crime, the local crime branch (LCB) and special operations group (SOG) checked the CCTV of the office and found that the wires of the digital video recorder (DVR) were snapped. This made the cops suspicious and they scanned through the CCTVs of the neighbouring offices and areas. However, in none of the footage, three persons as described by Chauhan are seen.
Investigators then grilled Chauhan who broke down and confessed to have cooked up the crime story.
LCB sources said that Chauhan was a habitual gambler and lost a big sum. To repay the amount, he concocted the story.
“Chauhan said the robbers had also slashed his hand with a knife. But we noticed that he was wearing a full-sleev shirt but it was not torn at all, which made us even more suspcious,” said VM Jadeja, sub-inspector, Surendranagar LCB
Police said they recovered Rs 11 lakh from Chauhan who has given the remaining cash to his friends. Along with Chauhan, police booked his friends, Kalpesh Kotar, Lakho and Alpesh, who are yet to be arrested.
Chauhan and others were booked under IPC sections pertaining to criminal conspiracy and others.
Chauhan was working with the firm for the last three years.
