Couple arrested for damaging tomb walls in Delhi Delhi News – Times of India

New Delhi: Two persons were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly damaging the walls of a tomb near CDR Chowk. Chhatarpur in South Delhi, said the police.
The accused Ranjit and Kanishk, both of whom are around the age of 20 Basai Darapur In west Delhi, he said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Atul Kumar Thakur said, “We received a PCR call at Mehrauli police station at 5.40 am that some people are trying to break into ‘Mazhar’ (tomb) near CDR Chowk, Chhatarpur.
He said, “When our Emergency Response Vehicle (EVR) reached the spot, they found that some people were trying to break the walls of the tomb near CDR Chowk. Two persons, identified as Ranjit and Kanishk, were killed on the spot. Got caught.”
A senior police officer said that in July, a purported video of a woman trying to harm a Majhar in the same area had surfaced online in which she claimed that it (Mazhar) obstructed the movement of traffic.
A case was registered against him and he was arrested in connection with the incident.
“During interrogation, the accused couple revealed that they saw the purported video of the woman on social media platforms and were impressed. Hence, they decided to go to CDR Chowk and demolish Mazhar,” he said.
Police said that both have been arrested under relevant sections of the IPC.
Police said Mazhar has now been covered with tarpaulins and surrounded by temporary road blocks.
