CBI Special Prosecutor BMP Singh said on Sunday that the special court on Saturday directed that 38 of the 41 accused who were convicted on February 15, who appeared before the court, would be sentenced through video conference.

He said that the three other convicts could not appear in the court on February 15 due to which the court has issued arrest warrants against the three. BMP Singh said that out of the 38 convicts to be sentenced, 35 are lodged in Birsa Munda Jail, while three other convicts, including Lalu Prasad Yadav, are admitted to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) due to health reasons.

Laptop arranged for the culprits

The Special Prosecutor of the CBI said that the jail administration will arrange the production of all 38 convicts in the court through video conference. He told that apart from Lalu Prasad, Dr. KM Prasad and Yashwant Sahai are recruited in RIMS. Birsa Munda Jail Superintendent Hamid Akhtar said that laptops have been arranged to present the three convicts admitted in RIMS through video conference in the court.

Lalu Prasad may be imprisoned for 7 years

BMP Singh said that the court will start pronouncing the sentence on Monday at 12 noon. Singh said that the court has convicted Lalu Prasad Yadav under sections 409, 420, 467, 468, 471 of the Indian Penal Code, along with section 120B related to conspiracy and section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. He told that Lalu Prasad Yadav can be imprisoned for up to seven years in these sections.

Let us inform that in this case, the CBI had filed a charge sheet against a total of 170 accused, while charges were framed against 148 accused on 26 September 2005.
