Coronavirus update: Infection cases rise in India with 13,091 new cases

New Delhi: India recorded 13,091 new Covid-19 infections in a 24-hour period, taking the total number of cases to 3,44,01,670, while active cases came down to 1,38,556, which is 266 days, according to the association. is the lowest. Health ministry figures were updated on Thursday.

India on Wednesday recorded a single-day increase of 11,466 COVID-19 cases.

However, the death toll climbed to 4,62,189 with 340 fresh deaths, as per the data updated at 8 am. The daily increase in new coronavirus infections has been below 20,000 for 34 straight days and less than 50,000 daily new cases have been reported for 137 consecutive days.

The ministry said that active cases comprise 0.40 per cent of the total infections, which is the lowest since March 2020, while the recovery rate has been recorded at 98.25 per cent, the highest since March 2020. Over 11.89 lakh COVID-19 tests were conducted in India in the last 24 hours, informed the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Thursday.

A decrease of 1,127 cases has been recorded in the active Covid-19 caseload in a 24-hour period. The total tally had crossed 20 lakhs on 7th August, 2020, 30 lakhs on 23rd August, 40 lakhs on 5th September and 50 lakhs on 16th September. It had crossed 60 lakhs on 28 September, 70 lakhs on 11 October. It crossed 80 lakhs on 29th October, 90 lakhs on 20th November and one crore on 19th December.

Meanwhile, a latest development emergency use authorization for the Merck drug mollupiravir, an oral antiviral drug for the treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19, is likely through “within days”, according to Dr Ram Vishwakarma’s chairman Covid Strategy Group, CSIR. The drug has been developed for adults who are at risk of severe COVID-19 or hospitalization. Another pill from Pfizer, Paxlovid, may take some more time, Dr Ram Vishwakarma told NDTV.
