On Friday, on New Year’s Eve, it had recorded 1,796 cases and a positivity rate of 1.73 per cent. As per official data, 1,313 cases were reported on Thursday with a positivity rate of 2.44 per cent.

During this, Cinema halls and sports complexes to remain closed in Gurgaon and four other cities of Haryana As part of the restrictions imposed by the state government on Saturday in view of the rise in coronavirus cases and the emergence of the Omron variant. Schools are also closed till January 12.

India reported 22,775 new infections on Saturday, while the death toll rose to 4,81,080 with 220 daily fatalities, the data said.

The health ministry said that active cases comprise 0.30 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has been recorded at 98.32 per cent.

France to ease Covid isolation rules
France will ease Covid isolation rules from Monday, the government announced, to reduce their impact on society and the economy, AFP reported.

Fully vaccinated people who test positive will only have to isolate for seven days even if they are infected with the coronavirus variant, but can leave the quarantine after five days if they show antigen or negative PCR tests .

There will be no quarantine for fully vaccinated persons whose close contact tests positive.

However, people should respect protective measures and “undergo regular testing”, Health Minister Olivier Veran said in an interview with Le Journal du Dimanche.

Until now, those who tested positive in France had to self-isolate for 10 days with their close contracts also being isolated for a week.

Five visitors to Koregaon Bhima Memorial test positive for Kovid

Five of the over 5,000 persons, who were among those who visited the Jaistambh Military Memorial in the district on Saturday, tested positive for COVID-19 in rapid antigen tests, officials said.

Lakhs of people paid homage at the memorial to mark the 204th anniversary of the Koregaon Bhima war.

Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Abhinav Deshmukh said, “There was a thermal screening facility in the parking area where people were screened for COVID-19 symptoms and some were tested with antigen kits.”

France sixth country with more than 10 million Kovid infections

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, France has become the sixth country in the world to report more than 10 million COVID-19 infections, according to official figures published on Saturday.

French health authorities reported 219,126 new confirmed cases in a 24-hour period, the fourth day in a row that the country recorded more than 200,000 cases.

France joins the United States, India, Brazil, Britain and Russia, with more than 10 million cases.
