A scary trend has started appearing in the third wave of the corona epidemic. More than 1 lakh cases are being registered daily in the country. The immune system of the elderly is weak, so they are at greater risk. In view of this, from today i.e. from January 10 in the country, elderly people above 60 years of age are starting to take preconception doses. According to the Ministry of Health, there are about 11 crore elderly people above 60 years of age in the country.

Along with the elderly, this third dose will also be given to frontline workers and healthcare workers. Those whose duty will be taken in the elections have also been kept in the category of frontline workers. Including these, there are about 30 million frontline workers and healthcare workers in the country.

Three conditions have been laid for giving the third dose to the elderly.

  • Have had both doses of the vaccine.
  • Take the second dose at least 9 months (37 weeks or 273 days) ago.
  • Only elderly people with comorbidities (suffering from many diseases) will be able to take the third dose.

Who will get the third dose in January?
Those who have received the second dose on or before 3rd May will get the precaution dose till 31st January. Whenever the person concerned becomes eligible for a precaution dose, Covin will send a text message informing him that the time has come for the third dose.

No certificate for getting precaution dosage, doctor’s advice will be taken
The Union Health Ministry has clarified that elderly people aged 60 years and above with comorbidities will not need a doctor’s certificate to take preconcussion doses. However, such people have been asked to consult a doctor before taking precaution dosage.

Precaution dose can also be booked at vaccine centers
Booking can also be done at vaccine centers along with online slot booking for taking precaution doses. However, at which vaccine center you will get the precaution dose, you will get this information only on the Kovin app. The beneficiary certificate will be updated automatically after taking the precaution dose or the third dose

Like the rest of the vaccine, the precaution dose will also be free.
According to the government, the precaution dose will be free at government vaccine centers. However, money will have to be paid for this at private hospitals or vaccine centers. However, the government has urged the people that those who are capable, they should get the third dose done by paying in the vaccine centers of private hospitals.

What diseases are included in comorbidity for people 60+
The government has not released a separate list of comorbidities for 60+ people, but according to Dr. RS Sharma of Covin, the comorbidities have already been issued by the Health Ministry for the vaccination of people in the age group of 45 to 60 years. Under 20 medical conditions will be valid for precaution dose also.
