Indian Army jawan and heavyweight boxer Satish Kumar, 32, reached the quarter-finals in the Tokyo Olympics. Satish may have been out of the medal race after losing to Bakhodir Jalolov of Uzbekistan, but his spirit is worth saluting. Satish has 13 stitches in his chin and eyebrows. Despite this, he entered the contest.

Satish hails from Pachauta village in Bulandshahr district of UP. He is returning to Delhi from Tokyo on Tuesday. Will first meet wife and children in Greater Noida, then go to the ancestral village Pachauta.

it felt like everything was lost
Boxer Satish Kumar told that in the pre-quarter match he had hit the opponent’s head on the face. This brought 13 stitches in the chin and eyebrows. It was as if I had lost everything. I was thinking again and again whether to play or not to play. During this time, a round of prayers started for me on social media. Everyone including the coach, family, friends motivated me to play the next round.

Doctors said not good, I requested
Satish said that in the end, I also thought that defeat and victory keep happening, but should not leave the last chance. Lest I don’t play fight and remain a regret for the rest of my life. I had a medical checkup on Sunday morning before the quarter finals. The doctors did the checkup and said ‘not good’. I requested him. Said that the last chance should not be snatched from me. Seeing my enthusiasm and passion, the doctors gave me permission to play in the quarter finals.

Will try my best to get medal in 2024
Satish says that he may have lost, but seeing the love of people, it seems as if he is alive. Even after losing, people got a lot of love. Everyone supported me. Satish said that in 2024 he will play in the Paris Olympics and will try his best to bring medals for India.

First medal won in 2010, then there was no looking back

  • Satish Kumar won the first gold medal in the North India Area Championship in 2010. After this he won the silver medal in the National Championship.
  • After this, he won the bronze medal in the Asian Games 2014 and got the silver medal in the 2018 Commonwealth Games. In 2015 also won bronze in Asian Championship.

The whole family is proud of Satish’s achievement. Satish’s mother Guddi tells that when Satish was 11 years old, there was no facility. My Bholu (Satish’s household name) used to practice by filling sand in the tube. Satish’s companions in the army call him Khali.
