Controversy over Gippy Grewal’s visit to Pakistan: In discussion after being stopped at Attari border; Went to cross the border on foot, permission was not given

Punjabi singer and singer Gippy Grewal is often in the news. First he came into the limelight because of his son’s Lohri, then now he is being talked about because of being stopped from going to Pakistan. Grewal had reached Amritsar to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple on January 28. From where he along with his companions had to leave for Pakistan on foot from the Attari border. But he was stopped at the Attari check post and was not allowed to go further.

According to the news quoted by Pakistan’s Dawn News, according to the Evaikuti Proprietary Trust Board, preparations were also done on the outskirts to welcome Gippy Grewal, as he was about to go to Kartarpur. He was to go to Kartarpur at 9:30 am and return to Lahore at 3:30 pm.

Grewal was then to attend a reception at the Governor’s House. He had also visited Nankana Sahib before coming back to India. Film and TV actors who have been waiting to welcome Gippy to Pakistan have slammed the Indian authorities for it.

Punjabi artists in India are also condemning it. If sources are to be believed, Gippy has been stopped from walking only by posting an Attari check. Gippy did not check the rules before leaving, according to which at present one cannot cross the border on foot. Posting the check, Gippy was told that he could go to Pakistan on a Y Dubai flight, but he chose to cancel the tour. So far no official statement has come from Gippy Grewal in this regard.
