Prayagraj: A special court (MP and MLA) on Monday framed charges of murder and criminal conspiracy against former MP and mafia don-turned-politician Ateeq Ahmed in two separate criminal cases.
Ateeq is currently lodged in Ahmedabad jail in Gujarat. He appeared in the court through video conferencing.
The first case is related to the murder of Jitendra Kumar under Dhumanganj police station of Prayagraj, which took place in the year 2016. Jitendra Kumar alias Munna was shot dead on 11 July 2016 while on his way from Rajruppur to NCR Headquarters.
It is alleged that Jitendra was threatened and asked not to run the land dispute case. An FIR was lodged in this case by Surajkali, the mother of the deceased. Later the police filed a charge sheet against Ateeq and others. Taking cognizance of the chargesheet, the special court framed charges of murder, criminal conspiracy, common intention, unlawful assembly, etc. against Atiq.
In another case, Alkama and Surjeet were shot dead on 25 September 2015 in Mariadih of Dhoomanjag police station. It is alleged that Atiq killed both Alkama and Surjeet with the help of complainant Abid.
The police had also filed a charge sheet against Atiq and his supporters in this case. Special Judge (MP and MLA) Alok Kumar Srivastava took cognizance of the chargesheet and framed charges of murder, criminal conspiracy, rioting and unlawful armed assembly against Atiq. Atiq, who was present through video conferencing during the entire proceedings, requested for hearing of these matters.
