The situation worsened due to the strike of the employees
In Chandigarh, about 1100 employees of the Municipal Corporation are on a 72-hour strike. They allege that the administration is privatizing the electricity department. The situation worsened as the workers went on strike. In two-thirds of the city there was a power outage. The Chandigarh administration had asked for employees from Punjab and Haryana but they raised their hands.

High Court took suo moto, army came for help
The Punjab and Haryana High Court took suo-moto as soon as the power system deteriorated in the city. The Chief Engineer will appear in the High Court today in this matter. At the same time, after not getting help from anywhere, help was sought from the army. To make the power system smooth, help has come from Military Engineering Service, Chandi Mandir. After which power has been restored in some parts of the city.

Administration imposed ESMA

Seeing the system deteriorating due to the strike of electricity workers, the Chandigarh Administration implemented the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA). After which any kind of strike has been banned for 6 months. 30 years ago, the administration had imposed ESMA in 1992 for the strike of water supply workers. However, despite this, the electricity workers are adamant on the strike.
