MLA Jignesh Mevani from Vadgam, Gujarat has been arrested by the Assam Police. The arrest took place on Wednesday night at 11.30 pm from Palanpur Circuit House in Gujarat. However, it is not clear what led to the arrest. The police have also not yet given the copy of the FIR nor has given the reason for the arrest. At present, Jignesh has been kept in Palanpur police station. Jignesh was brought to Ahmedabad late night by road from Palanpur. Today he will be taken to Guwahati by train.

He himself gave information about his arrest through Twitter. However, his tweets were later intercepted by the police officials. After the arrest, Jignesh Mevani said that I have been arrested in connection with one of my tweets. However, the police did not give me any accurate information. Mevani said, ‘I am not afraid of any false complaint. I will continue my fight.

Jignesh’s arrest comes at a time when assembly elections are due in Gujarat. The political agitation in the state has also increased due to this. Gujarat Congress President Jagdish Thakor met him at the Ahmedabad airport.

He is also seen as a Dalit leader of Gujarat. He supported the Congress during a press conference with Rahul Gandhi and former JNU student union leader Kanhaiya Kumar in September 2021.
