The Congress on Wednesday launched a membership drive in Jammu and Kashmir, with state unit chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir claiming that people want change as the BJP has “failed” on all fronts of governance, leading to “uncontrolled price rise and record unemployment”. ” happened. The decision to start the membership drive was taken by Sonia Gandhi in the recent Congress Working Committee meeting. Mir said that he had directed all party cadres to launch campaigns at booth level in all states. He claimed that people from all sections of the society were completely fed up with the BJP’s performance in governance and its “anti-youth, anti-poor and anti-people policies”.

“Besides the anti-worker, anti-business, anti-farmer and anti-people policies of the BJP, there is unchecked price rise, record unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir,” he alleged. “Congress has been at the fore in protest.” Anti-people policies are being imposed on the people by the bureaucratic administration from the back door, because there is no elected government in J&K for three and a half years.

Mir alleged that now people from different sections of the society are being forced to swallow bitter pills as they do not have any representation or platform to raise their voice.

Mir also claimed that people of all sections have turned against the BJP, hence the delay in the elections.
