Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has indicated that political strategist Prashant Kishor may be roped in to develop the Congress’ election campaign for next year’s assembly polls. Channi, Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu and AICC in-charge of state affairs Harish Chaudhary held a meeting with party legislators and other senior leaders on Tuesday evening and discussed the election strategy.

In a short video of the party meeting, Channi can be heard saying that “Harish Chowdhary ji was also advising Prashant Kishor to be hired”. Channi was also seen discussing the recent decision by his government to reduce power tariffs and how it received a positive response from the people.

Channi said there is enthusiasm among people and party workers. “As per your suggestions, electricity rates were reduced. We still have a few months (before the model code of conduct comes into force in view of the elections) and I will ensure that whatever you suggest will be done,” he said. “

Earlier this year, Kishor had resigned as principal advisor to former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh. Kishor is currently lobbying the Trinamool Congress (TMC) for the upcoming Goa Assembly elections. Earlier, Kishor had coined the campaign of Amarinder Singh in the 2017 assembly elections.

In the 2017 elections in Punjab, the Congress came to power with an overwhelming majority. Channi had recently replaced Amarinder Singh as the chief minister after the veteran leader quit the Congress on Tuesday and announced the name of his own political outfit to contest the upcoming state elections.
