Congress didn’t support Droupadi Murmu’s candidature for presidential elections as she is tribal woman, says PM Narendra Modi in Dahod | Vadodara News – Times of India

VADODARA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed the Congress party for doing ‘little’ for the tribals in the country.
He said that the party even created hurdles when a tribal woman was made a candidate for the President’s post.
Addressing a public meeting in the tribal heartland of Dahod, Modi said that after independence Congress got many opportunities and was in power right from the panchayat to Parliament. “But it did not bother about your welfare and made big claims,” he said.
Speaking about the appointment of Droupadi Murmu as President, the PM said that in the past 75 years many presidents were made, but the Congress never thought of making a tribal President.
“BJP for the first time made a tribal the President and that too a tribal woman,” he said.
Modi took a dig at former Congress president Rahul Gandhi saying that one person was doing a ‘yatra’ for ‘pad (post)’.
He said that he wanted to ask those who talked about tribals and struggled for posts what pain in their stomach they had in supporting the president’s candidate.
“They should have said they will support if a tribal woman is becoming the President. Instead, they put up a candidate against her and went all out to defeat her. But due to the blessings of the tribal people she won,” Modi said.
He took a dig at the Congress saying that it was the party’s culture not to do anything and not let anyone else do things.
“If others try to do something, they create hurdles and dig pits in their way,” Modi added.
Expressing confidence that the BJP was going to win the polls, Modi thanked the gathering in advance for making a government led by chief minister Bhupendra Patel. He said that many would wonder why he was working so hard when victory was certain and records were to be broken.
“Don’t we go to a temple daily or bow before God. You make us victorious and I have come to take your blessings,” he said. Modi said that when victory was certain Congress did not even look at voters.
Modi enlisted a list of welfare schemes taken up by the government for the poor. He stressed on works done for Dahod including Smart City, water supply scheme and, particularly, the railway locomotive factory coming up in the town.
He said that during the Congress rule Parel (the locomotive workshop) was ruined, but will now provide railway engines for the country and even for export.
