A three-member Congress delegation on Tuesday met members of the Election Commission, who are on a visit to Lucknow to take stock of the state’s election preparedness over the next few days.

Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Lallu has written to the Election Commission claiming that the party delegation that met the panel on Tuesday was “not authorized” and sought time for another meeting to put forth their views on holding free and fair elections. A three-member Congress delegation on Tuesday met members of the Election Commission, who are on a visit to Lucknow to take stock of the state’s election preparedness over the next few days.

As part of reviewing the preparations for the Uttar Pradesh election, the poll panel held several meetings with representatives of various political parties, raising their specific election demands and concerns. On Wednesday, Lallu wrote a letter to the commission, stating that the earlier delegation was “not authorized” and sought time for a meeting on Thursday.

“We would like to bring to your notice that the Indian National Congress delegation that met you on Tuesday was not authorized.” On December 30, the authorized delegation included me, Congress Legislature Party leader Aradhana Mishra, former MPs Pramod Tiwari and Naseemuddin Siddiqui. Would like to suggest how to conduct free, fair and timely elections, adhering to all COVID guidelines. Please give time to this delegation to meet you.” (Organisation) Dinesh Singh.

Omkarnath Singh, Virendra Madan and Mohammad Anas Khan were among the three leaders who met from the poll panel on Tuesday.
