The Congress party today (June 9) appointed Rajya Sabha MP Shaktisinh Gohil as the new Gujarat PCC president and replaced him with Deepak Babaria, relieving him of the AICC in-charge of Haryana and Delhi.

An official communication said, “The Congress President has appointed Shaktisinh Gohil as the new Gujarat PCC President and V Vaithilingam, MP as the new Puducherry PCC President.”

Another official order from the party said, “The Congress President has appointed Shri Deepak Babaria as in-charge of AICC, Haryana and Delhi, with immediate effect.”

It also said that the party appreciates the contribution of Gohil, the outgoing AICC in-charge. Gohil replaces Jagdish Thakor, who resigned after the party’s poor performance in the last assembly elections in Gujarat, when the party reached its lowest number of MLAs. The Congress also appointed MLA Varsha Gaikwad as the new president of the Mumbai RCC (Regional Congress Committee). He has replaced Bhai Jagtap.

Vaithilingam has replaced AV Subramaniam as the Puducherry PCC chief.

Another order said, “The party appreciates the contribution of outgoing PCC/RCC presidents Shri Jagdish Thakor (Gujarat), Shri AV Subramanian (Puducherry) and Shri Bhai Jagtap (Mumbai).”
