Tamil star Thalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited multilingual film Beast has landed in controversy ahead of its release on April 13. Recently a fan anointed milk for Vijay by pouring 25 liters of milk on a large cut out of the star. Due to this many people are angry about wasting milk.
SA Ponnusamy, president of Tamil Nadu Milk Dealers Employees Welfare Association (TNMDEWA) has lodged a complaint with the Director General of Police of Tamil Nadu in this matter. A complaint has also been lodged with the Chennai Metropolitan Police Commissioner and other senior police officials. In his complaint, Ponnusamy has said that the police should take action against putting up big cutouts of film stars at various places on the street. The complaint also mentions that youth are putting their lives at risk by indulging in such activities (pouring milk on the cutouts of actors).
Ponnusamy alleged that the actors would not reach out to help if anyone met with an accident during such an act. Ponnusamy cautioned fans of film stars to consider their safety first.
Pal Abhishekam, anointing posters and cutouts of film stars with milk, is a common practice in Tamil Nadu. Milk dealers have already approached the police with complaints of fans of film stars stealing milk packets for Pal Abhishekam.
Ponnusamy has been demanding a ban on this activity since 2015. Ponnusamy said that he has approached almost all the stalwarts of the Tamil film industry and requested them to ask their fans to stop the ritual. Ponnusamy said that till now no film star has accepted his request except Kamal Haasan and Sivakarthikeyan. He said that the fans of these two famous actors indulge in noble works like blood donation camps, helmet awareness etc.
