India’s Commonwealth Games going women’s doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand crashed out of the first round of the Malaysia Masters badminton tournament after losing to local pair of Pearl Tan and Thina Muralitharan here on Tuesday.

In the first round match that lasted just 33 minutes, the Indian pair was defeated by the Malaysian pair 14-21, 14-21.

No Indian won a match on Tuesday and two other women’s doubles pairs also suffered first-round defeats.

The pair of Ashwini Bhat and Shikha Gautam lost 7-21, 10-21 to Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota of Japan, while Pooja Dandu and Aarti Sara lost to Bulgaria’s Gabriella Stoeva and Stephanie Stoeva 17-21, 17-21. .

In women’s singles, Malvika Bansod also suffered a 10-21 17-21 loss to host country’s Goh Jin Wei in 33 minutes to be knocked out of the Super 500 tournament.


Olympic medalists PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal will compete in the women’s singles first round matches on Wednesday.
