The mega sporting event Commonwealth Games is upon us and athletes from all over the world have put in all their blood and sweat to prepare for it. Amidst all the expectations, Indian shuttler Chirag Shetty has made it clear that he wants to get India a gold medal in the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

Shetty, who has contributed with all his heart and soul to India’s Thomas Cup win, says the Commonwealth Games will have its challenges and Thomas Cup title victory is behind them. When it comes to contributing both on and off the court, Chirag has been an absolute champion and believes in getting back on the court and working hard for the next challenge that awaits him. Recalling the historic Thomas Cup, Chirag, one of India’s best doubles pair, says, “The spirit of that week remains, but it is time to go back to training and take on the next challenges, starting with the Commonwealth Games.” , World Championships and Asian Games”.

The 24-year-old badminton player from Mumbai believes that winning the Thomas Cup will act as a motivating factor for the badminton team and take their performance to another level. Shetty is quite confident about the fact that India can replicate its 2018 Commonwealth Games mixed gold winning performance on the grandest stage of them all. “The competition in the Thomas Cup is very tough. So for me winning the trophy was the highlight of Indian badminton. The Commonwealth Games is a mixed team event, so naturally, the dynamics will change, says 24-year-old Shetty, who along with his teammate Satwiksairaj will change. Rankireddy will try to win gold medal and make his country proud.

The Commonwealth Games 2022 is set to begin in Birmingham from 28 July this year and will continue till 8 August.
