Delhi fog: The current weather conditions in North India, particularly in states like Delhi NCR, are characterized by a severe and prolonged winter. The region is experiencing extremely cold temperatures, forcing people to seek refuge indoors or gather around bonfires for warmth. Dense fog is prevalent during the day, contributing to reduced visibility and affecting transportation.
The national capital’s Safdarjung observatory, primary base station of Delhi on Monday morning recorded the minimum temperature of 7.2 degree Celsius, one degree above the average, as per IMD.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow and orange alerts for cold and fog for the next three days. Thick layers of fog have enveloped various states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, leading to decreased speed for vehicles, air flights, and trains. The minimum mercury levels are consistently dropping, indicating the intensity of the cold wave.

Dense fog has covered the northern parts of the country, affecting visibility at Delhi Airport, where it has been recorded between 250 to 400 meters. In Punjab, smog is causing vehicles to crawl on the roads, and similar situations are reported in states like UP, Haryana, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, and Sikkim.

Both hilly areas and plains are experiencing a decline in minimum temperatures. In states like Uttar Pradesh, the minimum temperature on Sunday ranged from 3 to 7 degrees Celsius. Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 3.7 degrees Celsius, while Nawanshahr in Punjab experienced zero degrees Celsius.
