Coimbatore: A 20-year-old woman from Saibaba Colony in the city was found dead on Tuesday with injury marks on her neck. The police suspect that he has been murdered and have started investigation into the matter.
S Ashwathy, 20, of Church Road on Sabpati Street, was working at a fruit shop in the city. She was living with her mother.
On Tuesday evening, the police received information that Ashwathy was found dead in her house. A team led by Inspector Renuga Devi reached the spot and investigated.
A police officer said injury marks were found on his neck which suggested that he may have been strangled to death.
Ashwathi’s elder sister Aishwarya lodged a complaint with the police, which registered a case under section 174 (suspicious death) of CrPC. Aishwarya is living with her husband in Edayarapalayam.
The officer said that during interrogation they came to know that Ashwathy was having an affair with a married man a few months back. “The man was the husband of Ashwathi’s friend. When he came to know about the relationship between Ashvati and her husband, he left her,” the official said.
“The person has not been traced since Ashwathi’s death. His mobile phone is switched off. A police team has started searching for him,” the officer said.
